Ingredients

  • 1 cup urad dal (black lentils)
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon of ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped cilantro, for garnish

Directions

  1. Soak the urad dal in water for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a pot, bring the water and urad dal to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. In a pan, heat the ghee and add the cumin, coriander powder, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, green chillies, and garam masala. Fry for a few minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the fried spices to the cooked urad dal and mix well.
  5. Add the lemon juice and salt to taste.
  6. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
