Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup extra-strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips, optional

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk, vanilla, and coffee.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Add the cocoa powder and beat until combined.
  6. Fold the cream cheese mixture into the batter until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with the chocolate chips, if using. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
