Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice

Directions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds to the pot. Cook until they start to splutter.
  4. Add the chopped onion to the pot and sauté until it becomes translucent.
  5. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili to the pot. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in the turmeric powder and paprika. Cook for a minute to release the flavors.
  7. Add the drained basmati rice to the pot and mix well with the spices.

  9. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  10. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
