Ingredients

  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine yeast, warm water, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it foams.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal parts. Shape each part into a ball and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Cover with a damp towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the bread bowls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let them cool slightly before cutting the tops off and hollowing out the insides to make room for soup.
