Glogi is a traditional Finnish mulled wine that is perfect for warming up on cold winter evenings. This spiced and sweetened red wine is infused with aromatic spices like cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom and is great for serving at holiday parties or for simply enjoying by the fireplace. The warm and comforting flavors of Glogi make it a favorite among both children and adults.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1/2 cup of raisins
  • 1/4 cup of blanched almonds

Directions

  1. In a large pot, combine the red wine, water, sugar, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and cardamom pods.
  2. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Once the mixture is simmering, reduce the heat to low and add the orange slices, raisins, and blanched almonds. Stir to combine.
  4. Cover the pot and let the Glogi simmer gently for 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. After 30 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and strain the Glogi through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the spices and fruit slices.
  6. Serve the Glogi warm in mugs or heatproof glasses, garnished with a few raisins and blanched almonds.
  7. Enjoy your delicious and heartwarming Glogi!
