Ingredients
- 1 gallon of cold water
- 1 cup of salt
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of dried herbs (thyme, basil, oregano, rosemary, etc)
- 2 tablespoons of black peppercorns
- 1 whole turkey, giblets removed
Directions
- In a large stockpot, combine the cold water, salt, sugar, herbs, and peppercorns.
- Stir to combine and dissolve the salt and sugar.
- Rinse the turkey and place it in the pot. Make sure the turkey is completely submerged in the brine.
- Cover the pot with a lid and place it in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Remove the turkey from the brine and discard the brine.
- Rinse the turkey with cold water to remove any excess salt.
- Cook the turkey according to your desired recipe.
