Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of white sugar
- 4 tablespoons of chilled butter
- 1 cup of strawberries, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of finely chopped basil
- ¾ cup of milk
- 1 egg
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingertips to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal.
- Stir in the strawberries and chopped basil.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently for about 1 minute.
- Roll the dough out into a circle about ¾-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into 8 wedges. Place the scones on a prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
