Directions
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
Add the peppers, onion, and garlic to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
Add the diced tomatoes, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
Add the cooked sausage back to the skillet and stir to combine. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
Serve the sausage and peppers over the cooked penne and garnish with Parmesan cheese, if desired.
