Ingredients
- 1 pound of Italian sausage, sliced
- 1 red pepper, sliced
- 1 green pepper, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 ounces) of diced tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 pound of penne pasta, cooked according to package directions
- Grated Parmesan cheese for garnish, optional
Directions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the peppers, onion, and garlic to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
- Add the diced tomatoes, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked sausage back to the skillet and stir to combine. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
- Serve the sausage and peppers over the cooked penne and garnish with Parmesan cheese, if desired.
