Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.
Cream butter and sugar in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour and salt, then add to the creamed butter and sugar. Add the vanilla extract and beat until the dough is well blended.
Stir in the pecans.
Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the edges are golden brown. Cool for 1 minute on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
