  • 1 cup rye flour
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup molasses


  1. In a large bowl, combine the rye flour, all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Stir to combine.
  2. Add the oil, warm water, and molasses. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into a round. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and let rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Bake the bread for 30 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool before serving.
