Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Assorted food coloring
- 2 tablespoons rainbow sprinkles
- 1/2 cup rainbow nonpareils
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Beat until just combined.
- Divide the batter into 6 separate bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix until desired color is achieved.
- Pour each color of batter into the prepared pan, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the top of the cake with rainbow sprinkles and rainbow nonpareils.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
