Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup melted butter for brushing

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the butter and shortening and mix them into the flour using a pastry blender or your hands.
  2. Add the milk and water and knead the dough until it comes together. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a 12-inch square. Cut the dough into 16 equal squares.
  4. Brush the squares with melted butter and fold them in half. Place the croissants on a baking sheet and brush with more melted butter.
  5. Bake the croissants at 375°F for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Enjoy!
