Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups confectioners' sugar
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Beat until just blended.
- Stir in vanilla and almond extracts. Divide batter between the two prepared pans.
- Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- To make the buttercream frosting, cream together the butter and cream in a medium bowl. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar until desired consistency is reached.
- Spread frosting on cooled cake.
