Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup white sugar for decoration (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. Shape dough into walnut sized balls, and roll them in the remaining sugar. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
