Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter
  • 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 3 cups of popped popcorn (plain or flavored)
  • 1/2 cup of peanuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of M&Ms (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Add brown sugars, corn syrup, and salt, stirring until the sugars are dissolved.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the popcorn and peanuts (if using). Pour the sugar mixture over the popcorn, stirring to coat evenly.
  7. Spread the popcorn mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
  9. Remove from oven and stir in the M&Ms (if using). Allow to cool before serving.
