Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup rum

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, and baking soda; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
  5. Stir in the rum. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  7. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
