Ingredients
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 cup butter, cold and cubed
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Cinnamon sugar, for coating
Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir to combine and let sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and cardamom. Add the butter and mix with a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the yeast mixture and the cream and mix until the dough comes together. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out circles using a 3-inch biscuit cutter. Place the circles on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Fry the circles in batches for 3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
- Enjoy!
