Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour and stir until smooth and bubbly, about 1 minute.
  3. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly, until it is fully combined.
  4. Add the cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper and stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 5 minutes.
