This homemade beef pot pie features tender chunks of beef, carrots, potatoes, and peas in a rich and flavorful sauce, all baked inside a flaky and buttery pie crust. It is the perfect comforting dish for a cozy dinner with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef stew meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup diced carrots
- 1 cup diced potatoes
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 pie crusts, store-bought or homemade
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Add the beef stew meat to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides. Transfer the meat to a plate and set aside.
- Add the carrots, potatoes, peas, flour, thyme, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to coat the vegetables with flour.
- Pour in the beef broth, milk, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens into a gravy-like consistency.
- Return the beef to the skillet and stir it into the vegetable mixture. Cook for another 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Roll out one pie crust and place it in a greased 9-inch pie dish. Pour the beef and vegetable filling into the crust.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
- Make a few small slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Slice and serve the delicious homemade beef pot pie.
