Ingredients

  • 2 large potatoes
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Directions

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes into small cubes.
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and add the potatoes. Cook for 10 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and mash them with a potato masher or fork.
  4. Add the cheese, sour cream, butter, onion, garlic powder, pepper, paprika and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix well.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Form the mashed potato mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Place the balls in the hot oil and fry for about 3 minutes, or until golden brown on all sides.
  7. Remove the gyrolls from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb the excess oil.
  8. Serve the gyrolls warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
