Ingredients

  • 5 ripe guavas, diced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 9-inch pre-baked pie crust
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the diced guavas, 1/2 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Add the melted butter and water and mix until the mixture is thick and syrupy.
  4. Pour the guava mixture into the pre-baked pie crust and spread it evenly.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the 1/4 cup sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  6. Spread the meringue over the guava mixture and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the meringue is golden brown.
  7. Allow the pie to cool before serving.
