Ingredients

  • 1 lb. green beans, trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup finely diced cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon wasabi paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the milk and whisk until the batter is smooth.
  3. Add the green beans to the batter and toss to coat.
  4. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Carefully add the green beans to the hot oil in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
  6. Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, cucumber, wasabi paste, lemon juice, and soy sauce.
