Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9x13 inch pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour, baking powder, salt and milk until batter is smooth.
Pour into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
