Ingredients

  • 6 large yams
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Wash and peel the yams, then cut them into 1/2-inch cubes.
  3. Melt butter in a 9x13-inch baking dish or casserole dish.
  4. Add the yams, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, orange juice, water, and salt to the baking dish. Mix everything together until the yams are evenly coated.
  5. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 45 minutes until the yams are tender and the syrup is thick and bubbly.
  7. Serve hot.
