German Raspberry Meringue Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, beat egg whites until frothy. Add cream of tartar, salt and vanilla extract. Beat until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time. Beat until stiff peaks form and sugar is dissolved.
  4. Spread meringue onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Form into a 9-inch circle.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes. Reduce heat to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C) and continue baking for 20 minutes. Turn off oven and let meringue cool in oven.
  6. Top with fresh raspberries and serve.
