Ingredients
- 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust
- 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup light cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup light cream
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a medium bowl, combine the apples, 1/3 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
- Spoon the mixture into the pie crust and dot with butter. Bake for 25 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup cream, 1/2 cup sugar, egg yolks and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour over the baked apples in the pie crust.
- Bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the custard is set. Sprinkle with walnuts and cool before serving.
