Ingredients

  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust
  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup light cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup light cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the apples, 1/3 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
  3. Spoon the mixture into the pie crust and dot with butter. Bake for 25 minutes.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup cream, 1/2 cup sugar, egg yolks and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour over the baked apples in the pie crust.
  5. Bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the custard is set. Sprinkle with walnuts and cool before serving.
