Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk.
Slowly stir in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the dates and figs.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
