Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing
  • 2 tablespoons flour for the crosses

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water and set aside for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and melted butter. Mix together until a soft dough forms.
  3. Add the eggs and the yeast mixture and mix until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Add the raisins and knead the dough until it is well combined.
  5. Shape the dough into 12 equal sized balls and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  6. Cover the baking sheet with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Brush the tops of the buns with the melted butter and sprinkle with flour to form the crosses.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
