Ingredients
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup warm water
- ½ cup warm milk
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing
- 2 tablespoons flour for the crosses
Directions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water and set aside for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and melted butter. Mix together until a soft dough forms.
- Add the eggs and the yeast mixture and mix until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Add the raisins and knead the dough until it is well combined.
- Shape the dough into 12 equal sized balls and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet.
- Cover the baking sheet with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Brush the tops of the buns with the melted butter and sprinkle with flour to form the crosses.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
