In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
