Ingredients

  • 1 pound French green beans
  • 4 slices bacon, diced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups day-old bread, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the green beans for 2-3 minutes, until bright green. Drain and transfer to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Drain well.
  3. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the green beans, cooked bacon, bread cubes, chicken broth, parsley, thyme, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Mix well to combine.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and drizzle melted butter over the top.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!
