Ingredients

  • 1 cup Herman sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins or chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp milk

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, melted butter, and salt.
  2. Gradually add in the flour until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Brush with melted butter.
  5. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle it over the dough. Add raisins or nuts if desired.
  6. Roll up the dough tightly and slice into 12 even pieces. Place in a greased baking dish.
  7. Cover and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk to make the glaze. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
