Made with a blend of chickpeas, herbs, and spices, these falafel patties are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Serve them in pita bread with a variety of toppings and sauces for a satisfying and flavorful meal. This recipe is quick and easy to make, perfect for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chickpeas
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Pita bread and desired toppings, for serving

Directions

  1. In a food processor, combine the cooked chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, salt, black pepper, and baking soda.
  2. Pulse until the mixture is well combined but still slightly chunky.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the breadcrumbs. Let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to absorb some of the moisture.
  4. Form the mixture into golf ball-sized balls and flatten slightly to form patties.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Fry the patties in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the falafel from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve the falafel in pita bread with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, tahini sauce, or yogurt sauce.
