Enjoy the flavors of Tex-Mex cuisine with this American twist on fajitas. Tender strips of beef or chicken are marinated in a zesty blend of spices and served with grilled veggies and warm tortillas. Perfect for a festive dinner or casual gathering with friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of flank steak or chicken breast
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Flour tortillas
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, shredded cheese

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create a spice rub.
  2. Slice the steak or chicken into thin strips and toss with the spice rub. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak or chicken strips and cook until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the bell peppers, onion, and garlic. Cook until vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Return the steak or chicken to the skillet and toss to combine with the vegetables.
  6. Warm the flour tortillas in a separate skillet or in the oven.
  7. Serve the fajita mixture in the warm tortillas, topped with your favorite garnishes.
  8. Enjoy your homemade American style fajitas!
