Ingredients
1 package extra-firm tofu
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon chili paste
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
Directions
Drain and press the tofu, then cut into cubes.
In a bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, ginger, pepper, and salt.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Dredge the tofu cubes in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
Fry the tofu cubes in the hot oil for about 4 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, chili paste, and water.
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water.
Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
Stir in the cornstarch mixture, stirring constantly until thickened.
Return the tofu to the skillet and stir to coat.
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and serve.
