This classic recipe for American-style Stuffed Cabbage Rolls features tender cabbage leaves stuffed with a savory mixture of ground beef, rice, and seasonings, all simmered in a tangy tomato sauce. It's a comforting and hearty dish that is perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the head of cabbage and place it in the boiling water. Let it cook for about 5-7 minutes, until the leaves are soft and pliable. Remove from the water and let cool.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, thyme, and parsley. Mix well.
  4. Carefully peel off the cabbage leaves and trim the tough center rib from each leaf.
  5. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll up the leaf, tucking in the sides as you go, to form a neat package. Place the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Pour the mixture over the cabbage rolls.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45-50 minutes, until the cabbage is tender and the meat is cooked through.
  8. Serve the stuffed cabbage rolls hot, with some of the tomato sauce spooned over the top. Enjoy!
