Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lb pasta of your choice, cooked al dente

Directions

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef and pork over medium heat until cooked through. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic to the pot, cooking until vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in the red wine, crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and tomato paste, then bring to a simmer.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the sauce simmer for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in the parsley and basil, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
