This classic apple pie recipe is a timeless dessert that is perfect for any occasion. Made with a flaky and buttery pie crust and filled with sweet and tart apples, this pie is a crowd favorite. With just a few simple ingredients and easy-to-follow steps, you can create a homemade apple pie that will impress your family and friends. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate comfort food experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 6 to 7 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, while mixing with your hands. Mix just until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
  3. Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a disk. Wrap each disk with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, melted butter, and lemon juice. Mix well until all the apples are coated.
  6. Remove one disk of dough from the refrigerator and roll it out on a lightly floured surface. Transfer the rolled dough onto a 9-inch pie dish and press it gently against the bottom and sides of the dish.
  7. Pour the apple filling into the pie dish.
  8. Remove the second disk of dough from the refrigerator and roll it out into a circle slightly larger than the pie dish. Cover the pie filling with the rolled-out dough. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  9. Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape while baking.
  10. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake it in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  11. Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for an additional 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  12. Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving.
  13. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
