Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease baking sheets.
In a medium saucepan, bring water, butter, and salt to a rolling boil.
Add flour all at once, stirring vigorously until mixture forms a ball and leaves sides of pan.
Turn dough into a mixing bowl. Beat in eggs one at a time, making sure each is thoroughly incorporated before adding the next.
Stir in cheese.
Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in preheated oven, or until golden brown.
Interesting Facts

They can be made with other types of cheese, such as Gruyere or Parmesan.
Gougeres can be served plain, or filled with savory fillings such as ham and cheese.
