Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate adding the dry flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Grease 8 half-pint Mason jars with butter or non-stick cooking spray. Spoon about 1/4 cup of batter into each jar.
  7. Place the jars on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  8. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. Once the cakes are cool, use a skewer or fork to poke several holes into the top of each cake.
  10. Pour about 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce over each cake, allowing it to seep into the holes and soak the cake.
  11. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the caramel sauce.
  12. Close the jars with their lids and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together.
