Ingredients

  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 7-8 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine yeast, water, sugar, salt, and butter.
  2. Add 4 cups of the flour and mix until combined.
  3. Add the remaining flour 1 cup at a time. Mix until dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl, turning once to coat the surface of the dough.
  6. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough in half.
  8. Shape each half into a loaf and place in two greased 9x5 inch loaf pans.
  9. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Remove from oven and let cool before slicing.
