Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla, then eggs, one at a time. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture alternately with milk, mixing just until blended.
  3. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  4. Allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
