Ingredients
- 2 (15-ounce) cans French-style green beans, drained
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup finely chopped onions
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually stir in evaporated milk and garlic powder. Cook until thickened, about 7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of cheese.
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the green beans, followed by the cheese sauce. Top with remaining green beans.
- In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs and remaining cheese. Sprinkle over green beans.
- Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
