With a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy, this Vietnamese-style baguette is a true explosion of flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

  • Baguette
  • Pork or Chicken
  • Soy sauce
  • Garlic
  • Sugar
  • Fish sauce
  • Lime juice
  • Mayonnaise
  • Cucumber
  • Carrot
  • Radish
  • Cilantro
  • Jalapeno
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Vegetable oil

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, minced garlic, sugar, fish sauce, and lime juice. Add the pork or chicken to the marinade and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the marinated pork or chicken until it is cooked through and slightly caramelized.
  3. Slice the baguette into sandwich-sized pieces and then slice them open lengthwise.
  4. Spread a generous amount of mayonnaise on both sides of the baguette.
  5. Layer the cooked meat on the bottom half of the baguette.
  6. Thinly slice cucumber, carrot, and radish into matchstick-like pieces. Season them with salt and let them sit for 10 minutes to draw out excess moisture.
  7. Rinse the vegetables and pat them dry. Arrange them on top of the meat.
  8. Add a handful of fresh cilantro leaves on top of the vegetables.
  9. Thinly slice the jalapeno and add them to the sandwich if you like some heat.
  10. Close the baguette sandwich and press it gently to compact the ingredients.
  11. Cut the sandwich into smaller pieces if desired and serve immediately.
