Ingredients
3 cups of apple cider
1/2 cup of kosher salt
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of fresh thyme leaves
1/4 cup of freshly cracked black pepper
2 tablespoons of orange zest
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of ground ginger
4 quarts of cold water
Directions
In a large pot, combine the apple cider, kosher salt, brown sugar, thyme leaves, black pepper, orange zest, garlic powder, and ground ginger.
Whisk to combine and bring the mixture to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce heat to a low simmer and let the brine cook for five minutes.
Remove the pot from heat and let the brine cool completely.
Once cool, add the brine to a large container and add the cold water.
Stir to combine and submerge the turkey in the brine.
Cover and place in the refrigerator overnight or for at least 8 hours.
Remove the turkey from the brine and rinse off with cold running water.
Pat dry and proceed with your recipe.
