Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter, melted
  • 1/2 pound phyllo dough (about 12 sheets)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup of semolina or farina cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup of honey
  • 1/3 cup of water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with the melted butter.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in the bottom of the pan and brush with melted butter.
  4. Repeat with the remaining sheets until the pan is full.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, semolina cereal and cinnamon.
  6. Pour the mixture over the phyllo dough.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes or until the custard is set and the phyllo is golden brown.
  8. In a small saucepan, combine the lemon juice, honey and water. Heat over low heat until the honey is dissolved.
  9. Pour the syrup over the custard and let cool completely before serving.
