Preheat oven to 375 F (190 C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, stirring until well blended.
Roll the dough into 1-inch (2.5 cm) balls and place them 2 inches (5 cm) apart on the prepared baking sheets. Flatten the dough balls slightly with the back of a spoon.
Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
