Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons blackstrap molasses
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons rye flour
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, molasses, caraway seeds, sea salt, melted butter, and rye flour. Mix until the ingredients are well combined.
  2. Using a wooden spoon, gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture and stir until the dough comes together.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. After the dough has doubled in size, turn it out onto a lightly floured work surface. Knead the dough briefly and shape into a round loaf. Place the loaf onto a lightly greased baking sheet.
  6. Cover the loaf with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until it is golden brown.
  8. Remove the loaf from the oven and let cool completely before slicing.
