Ingredients

  • 3-4 lb pork shoulder or butt roast
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Hamburger buns, for serving

Directions

  1. Place the sliced onion and minced garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Season the pork roast with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Place the roast on top of the onions and garlic.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the chicken broth, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and additional salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the pork roast.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  5. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir to coat it in the sauce.
  6. Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns with additional BBQ sauce, coleslaw, or pickles if desired.
