Ingredients
- 6 slices of white bread
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of saffron strands
- 2 tablespoons of ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 cup of chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios)
- 1 tablespoon of raisins
- 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of rose water
Directions
- In a small bowl, soak saffron strands in 1 tablespoon of warm milk for 10 minutes.
- In a saucepan, heat the remaining milk over medium heat and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the soaked saffron strands, sugar, cardamom powder, and rose water. Stir well until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Remove the crusts from the bread slices and cut them into triangles or squares.
- Heat ghee in a pan over medium heat and fry the bread slices until they turn golden brown on both sides. Set them aside.
- In the same pan, add chopped nuts and raisins. Sauté them until they become slightly golden.
- Pour the saffron-infused milk mixture over the fried bread slices. Allow the bread to absorb the milk for a few minutes.
- Garnish the Shahi Tukray with the sautéed nuts and raisins.
- Serve the Shahi Tukray hot or refrigerate for a few hours and serve chilled.
