Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of warm milk
- 2 2/3 cups of all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
- 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup of jam or marmalade
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter, for brushing
- 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, for dusting
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine the egg, melted butter, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and warm milk. Whisk to combine.
- Add the flour and yeast to the bowl and mix with a wooden spoon until the dough starts to come together.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
- Once the dough has doubled in size, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to a 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into 3-inch circles and place 1 teaspoon of jam or marmalade in the center of each circle.
- Fold the circles in half and pinch the edges together to seal in the filling.
- Place the crescents on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with melted butter.
- Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool before dusting with powdered sugar.
